Patterson, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Naval Plane attached to the U.S.S. LANGLEY (CV-27), over the Bonin and Mariana Islands, from 13 June 1944 to 3 July 1944.
