Yund, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in attacks on Japanese shipping and shore installations in Korea and the Honshu areas during World War II.

Lieutenant Commander Yund directed an attack which sank an enemy ship.
