Duffield, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Special Assistant to the Undersecretary of the Navy from 15 November 1942 to 18 May 1944; and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy from 19 May 1944 to 2 September 1945.
