Lally, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct in commanding a fire fighting unit aboard the U.S.S. YORKTOWN when an airplane crashed on the flight deck near the Marshall and Gilbert Islands on 23 November 1943.
