Fairfax, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Commanding Officer of Fighting Squadron ELEVEN (VF-11), embarked in U.S.S. HORNET in the vicinity of Formosa on 12 October 1944.
