De Golian, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Gunnery Officer of the U.S.S. COWIE, Assistant Gunnery Officer on the Staff of Commander Destroyers Atlantic, Executive Officer of the U.S.S. DE HAVEN, and Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. FLUSSER from 12 March 1942 to the cessation of hostilities in September 1945.
