(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain George L. Shane, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Division Engineer, Submarine Division SIXTY-ONE from 7 December 1941 to April 1943; and as Acting Material Officer, Submarine Squadron SIX, on 7 December 1941. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
