Sims, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Torpedo Squadron NINETY-FOUR (VT-94), embarked in U.S.S. LEXINGTON, over Kure Naval Base, Japan, on 28 July 1945.
