Smith, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Aircrewman in a Patrol Bomber of Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED NINETEEN (VPB-119) in the forward area of the Pacific from 2 March 1945 to 4 May 1945.
