Wheelock, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Assistant to Head Contract Design Section and Head of that section, from 7 December 1941 to April 1943; and later, Head Design Branch, Bureau of Ships, April 1943 to July 25, 1944.
