Hartung, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Senior Assistant District Public Works Officer and Assistant to the Officer-in-Charge, Construction and later, District Public Works Officer and Officer-in-Charge Construction, FOURTEENTH Naval District, and service with Commander Naval Forces Europe and Commander Task Force 124, France and Germany, 7 December 1941 to 15 July 1945.
