Williams, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct while attached to Naval Air Station Coco Solo, during the rescue of ship-wrecked civilians; and later, the rescue of three survivors of a balloon crash, in January and February 1920.
