Witt, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Torpedo Bomber Pilot embarked in U.S.S. BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31), over the Japanese Inland Sea on 24 July 1945.
