Hamby (ASN: 19015756), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the Quartermaster Detachment, 1st Provisional Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment (Philippine Scouts), Philippine Divison, in action against enemy forces on 29 December 1941, at Fort Mills, Corregidor, Philippine Islands. Beneath the relentless hail of bombs in a Japanese air attack, Private Hamby drove nurses and wounded to the hospital and went back again and again to bring in more of the wounded.
