(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate Raymond G. Pugsley, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving aboard the U.S.S. POGY (SS-266) during the TENTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters from 2 July 1945 to 21 August 1945. His excellent judgment and thorough knowledge of attack problems, assisted his Commanding Officer considerably in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the sinking and damaging of 22,500 tons of enemy shipping. His coolness and high devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading severe enemy countermeasures. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
