The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Captain (Nurse Corps) Sue Sophia Dauser, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Superintendent of the Navy Nurse Corps during the pre-war period and during World War II. Captain Dauser rendered distinguishing service in establishing a postgraduate training program. She was directly responsible for expanding the Corps from 600 in the pre-war period to 11,500, the number essential to provide adequate nursing care for the Navy, Marine and Coast Guard personnel as the war progressed.
