(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant James L. McCallen, Jr., United States Naval Reserve, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action as leader of a flight of bombers embarked in the U.S.S. HANCOCK (CV-19) over the Ryukyu Islands on 10 October 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
