The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Junior C. Forney, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Bomber attached to an aircraft carrier during World War II. Lieutenant Forney vigorously depth-bombed a U-boat, coordinating his attack with a fighter and another bomber. Two charges exploded directly beneath the diving submarine, forcing it to the surface badly damaged and enabling a companion plane to complete its destruction.
