The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Machinist Sheridan H. Wedow, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. As Chief Petty Officer of the auxiliary machinery force and battle repair party of a submarine which sank 40,206 tons and damaged 5,864 tons of enemy shipping, his outstandingly courageous, cool and competent manner inspired the crew and contributed materially to the vessel’s high degree of success. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
