The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant William E. Norrington, Jr., United States Navy, for gallantry in action as an officer of a ship’s company during patrol in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. The admirable cool and courageous manner in which he aided in attacks and the manner in which he performed his duties without regard for personal safety contributed materially to the measure of success attained. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
