The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Captain Benton Weaver Decker, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of Staff of an amphibious task force during the invasions of Peleliu and Angaur during World War II. Captain Decker was an efficient and inspiring leader. He succeeded in organizing the staff within an extremely limited period of time.
