The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Coxswain Jack C. Wilson, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as coxswain of a landing boat in the Sicilian invasion in September 1943. Coxswain Wilson went to the aid of a wounded comrade, administered first aid and directed his removal to a place protected from hostile fire. Performing his essential duties with outstanding skill throughout the subsequent landing operations, Coxswain Wilson later returned the helpless shipmate to his vessel. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
