Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 335 (February 1945)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Gunner’s Mate First Class Edward J. Jackson, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as coxswain of a landing boat in the amphibious assault at Sicily in September 1943. Gunner’s Mate First Class Jackson skillfully landed his damaged boat on the assigned beach in the first assault wave and, despite heavy fire, carried out an important hydrographic survey, obtaining information vital to efficiency of subsequent landings. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
