The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Seaman Second Class Ronald C. Brady, United States Navy, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Seaman Second Class Ronald C. Brady and Seaman Second Class Roy A. Stembler went to the aid of an Army pilot who had parachuted into South San Francisco Bay on 20 December 1943. At the risk of their lives they swam 1,000 yards in extremely cold water to the exhausted and nearly unconscious pilot. They pulled him onto a plank and paddled toward shore until a small boat came to the rescue.
