    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Commander (MC) Carver G. Walcott, United States Naval Reserve, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Medical Officer aboard the U.S.S. BISCAYNE (AVP-11 during the invasion of Italy in 1944. Lieutenant Commander Walcott skillfully treated survivors of nearby stricken vessels despite the danger imposed by devastating enemy bombing attacks. By his competent handling of a difficult task for a long period of time with limited facilities he contributed to the saving of many lives.
