The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Raymond Javorsky, United States Navy, for heroic conduct following an explosion at the Naval Magazine, Port Chicago, California, on 17 July 1944. Although not attached to the station complement, he volunteered to enter a highly dangerous area and worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control. He contributed to the prevention of further explosions and possible loss of life.
