The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Gerald G. Hogan, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight during World War II. When a hostile U-boat was sighted with decks awash, Lieutenant Hogan twice bombed the enemy craft, coordinating his attack with a fighter and another bomber. He contributed materially to the complete destruction of the submarine and the capture of 44 members of her crew as prisoners of war.
