(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (SC) Stephen R. Edson, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Supply Officer, on the staff of a Task Force Commander, during the invasion of Southern France, in August 1944.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain (SC) Stephen R. Edson, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Supply Officer on the staff of Commander U.S. Naval Forces, Northwest African Waters, during the Sicilian and Italian campaigns in 1943 and 1944. Captain Edson arranged many complex details of organization and administration so that effective logistic support could be adequately provided.
