The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Francisco H. McAdoo, Jr., United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as Commanding Officer of a PT-boat off the northern coast of New Guinea. Lieutenant McAdoo led his ship into combat with six Japanese barges on 16 March 1943 and assisted in sinking all six craft. On two later occasions he contributed to the destruction of three barges and the probable destruction of three others. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
