The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Stuart Shadrick Murray, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of Staff for the Commander Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet, from 1 May 1943 to 16 November 1943. Captain Murray planned and executed the extensive submarine operations in Japanese-controlled waters, and contributed in large measure to the efficient performance of the units under his command in inflicting a tremendous amount of damage on the enemy.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Rear Admiral Stuart S. Murray, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. MISSOURI (BB-63), in operations against the Japanese from 6 March 1945 to 11 August 1945.
