The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Petty Officer Second Class Ed King, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II. Hearing a cry for help and seeing one of his shipmates struggling in the swift current bout 40 yards off Majuro Atoll, Petty Officer Second Class King and two other men swam out toward the drowning seaman but were unable to get a secure hold on him. He tried desperately to save his companion but because exhausted and was finally picked up by a harbor patrol.
