The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate Bernhart Dibbern, United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. During the first three patrols of his submarine, Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate Dibbern was directly responsible for the performance of the engineering plant. His knowledge of the ship and his untiring efforts in training personnel contributed materially to the success of the vessel in destroying Japanese shipping.
