The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aviation Radioman Second Class Arnold R. Zubik, United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct on 25 March 1944. Anticipating the crash of an approaching plane at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Los Alamitos, California, Aviation Radioman Second Class Zubik rushed to the scene as the craft burst into flames, enveloping the trapped and unconscious pilot. He freed the man from the wreckage and, although painfully burned by a tremendous explosion, dragged him out of the blazing plane.
