The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Radioman Horace C. Post, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving aboard a motor torpedo boat in the Solomon Islands on 5 July 1943. Chief Radioman Post was a member of a salvage crew dispatched to recover certain equipment from a boat which was grounded on a reef a short distance from enemy shore batteries. Forced to abandon the small boat by accurate fire from these batteries, he swam the remaining half mile, thereby preventing this equipment from falling into enemy hands. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
