The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Franklin M. Murray (NSN: 0-104842), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a torpedo bomber during World War II. Lieutenant Murray pressed home a powerful attack upon a submarine in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire and released depth bombs which exploded almost in contact with the sides of the submarine, probably destroying it.
