The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Leland Pearson Lovette, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Navy Director of Public Relations from August 1942 to June 1944. Captain Lovette successfully handled the many problems involved in the organization and adjustment of the Navy’s relations with the public and press during a particularly trying period.
