The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Colonel Wheelock Graves Veazey, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 July 1863, while serving with 16th Vermont Infantry, in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Colonel Veazey rapidly assembled his regiment and charged the enemy’s flank; charged front under heavy fire, and charged and destroyed a Confederate brigade, all this with new troops in their first battle.
