The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) to Seaman First Class Robert Louis Magee, United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct when the compartment of a U.S. Warship in which he was working with several comrades filled with carbon dioxide gas, 8 November 1943. Seaman First Class Magee unhesitatingly re-entered the room after escaping and effected their rescue of a shipmate who had been overcome. He collapsed a the foot of the ladder after evacuating the stricken man.
