(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Quartermaster First Class Dale E. Woods, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in Utility Squadron 13 on 4 December 1943. Although suffering from a fractured foot and a severely sprained back, Quartermaster First Class Woods remained at his station after his ship was torpedoed and successfully assisted in centering the rudder, thereby permitting the ship to be steered by engines. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
