(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Rear Admiral Henry Samuel Kendall, United States Navy, was awarded a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander Carrier Division 24 and as Commander of a Task Group, returning demobilized forces from the Pacific areas to the United States from September 1945 to March 1946.

Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 328 (July 1944)The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Rear Admiral Henry Samuel Kendall, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while Commanding a fleet air wing from August 1942 to February 1944 in the Solomon Islands Area. Admiral Kendall provided efficient air searches, rescue missions and offensive actions against the Japanese on Bougainville, Rabaul and other targets. He was largely responsible for the safety of Allied shipping in the South Pacific area.
