The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Construction Mechanic Third Class Allen B. Olsen, United States Naval Reserve, for Allen B. Olsen, United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct on 14 September 1943 when he and a comrade rescued an Army pilot from a plane which crashed and burst into flames while making a night landing. Construction Mechanic Third Class Olsen and his comrade released the wounded pilot and carried him to safety amid exploding ammunition from the plane’s magazines.
