    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) to Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Eugene Joseph Hoffman (NSN: 3419006), United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. Placed in charge of the after torpedo room of the U.S.S. GRAYLING (SS-209) during patrols in Japanese-controlled waters, Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Hoffman kept torpedoes and tubes in readiness at all times and by shill, courage and untiring efforts contributed materially to the combat efficiency of his vessel.
