The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Ensign Theodore R. Chrischilles, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action during the invasion of Italy in September 1943. Commanding a support boat, Ensign Chrischilles escorted the first assault waves and exhibited splendid leadership and complete disregard for his own safety in the face of heavy and close enemy artillery fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
