The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Edward G. Campbell, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as Communications Officer and member of the torpedo control party of the U.S.S. GRAYLING (SS-213) throughout numerous attacks on hostile shipping in enemy controlled waters during World War II. Lieutenant Campbell rendered invaluable service. On one occasion he skillfully obtained ranges to the target which enabled his vessel to sink an enemy ship. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
