The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander John Kremer, Jr., United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as Officer-in-Charge of two PT-boats during the invasion of Italy in September 1943. Lieutenant Commander Kremer launched a daring attack on an enemy convoy protected by a superior force. Despite hostile gunfire and illumination, he succeeded in destroying an enemy ammunition ship and withdrew his own boats without damage. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
