The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Commander Cyril B. Hamblett, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. McCAWLEY (AP-10), in the Solomon Islands from August 1942 to June 1943. Lieutenant Commander Hamblett participated in the initial occupation of Guadalcanal-Tulagi and later assisted in transporting supplies and reinforcements to the American garrisons. Later, when his ship was sinking, he supervised removal of personnel with a minimum loss of life. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
