The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Marion C. Walley, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while commanding a United States Navy ship during an engagement with a Japanese submarine in the Solomon Islands during World War II. Lieutenant Walley skillfully attacked, relentlessly tracked the hostile craft, and seriously damaged and probably sank it.
