    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Commander John R. Daix, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Executive Officer of a naval vessel during World War II. Lieutenant Commander Daix participated in the initial occupation of Guadalcanal-Tulagi and made many trips to the forward area to deliver supplies and reinforcements. He assisted in bringing his ship safely through numerous engagements with enemy planes and submarines.
