The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Commander John A. Glick, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. BRISTOL (DD-453) during the assault on Salerno in September 1943. Commander Glick delivered accurate and decisive gunfire in support of landing operations. Though the BRISTOL suffered continuous pounding from enemy batteries, he fought the ship dauntlessly and contributed materially to the success of our operations.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander John A. Glick, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. BRISTOL (DD-453) during the Sicilian campaign in July 1943. Commander Glick operated his vessel as a unit in a task force in support of the advance of the invasion forces. He handled his ship with expert seamanship in screening assault convoys, providing anti-submarine protection and bombarding enemy positions.
