The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander William O. Floyd, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while commanding an attack group during the assault on Sicily in July 1943. Commander Floyd skillfully directed units of his command. He later correlated movements of ships and landing craft offshore as head beach master.
